Naija News reports that there have been concerns about the fate of the current Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, ahead of the 2027 election.

Reports also circulated online that Wike had endorsed former State Commissioner for Works, Alabo Dakorinama George Kelly, as his preferred candidate for the Rivers State governorship election.

Wike was said to have settled for George after a closed-door meeting with key political stakeholders in Port Harcourt on Monday.

However, Wike, during his monthly media parley in Abuja on Wednesday, said he has not endorsed any candidate for the Rivers state gubernatorial election in 2027.

According to the Minister, the endorsement will come only after a meeting of the state-level joint coalition.

He said: “I haven’t endorsed anybody. And I can’t endorse anybody until the joint coalition meets.”

Meanwhile, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has accused Wike of influencing the selection of governorship candidates for both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the PDP in Rivers State.

George described the development as troubling, warning that it could destabilise the PDP and the country’s political environment if not addressed.

The PDP chieftain spoke on Wednesday during an interview on Arise Television’s *Morning Show*.

George expressed concern over the lingering crisis in the PDP, describing it as unprecedented.

He criticised some party members, particularly those in Wike’s faction, for allegedly refusing to abide by the party’s rules and procedures.
