Afrobeats star Davido has announced a temporary suspension of his music career to support the re-election bid of his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election.
Youth mobilisation drive begins
The singer made the declaration on Tuesday in Ede during the inauguration of the Imole Youth Campaign Mobilisation Team, where he was unveiled as chairman.
He said the decision was necessary to strengthen grassroots mobilisation, particularly among young voters across the state.
“I have put my musical career on hold for two months to come and work for my uncle, not only because he is my uncle but because he is doing a good job and still has more to accomplish. The job is not done,” he said.
“We are all here to support him to win the election w ith our influence. This is one of the most important committees because it focuses on youths.”
Call for grassroots engagement
Davido urged members of the committee to embark on door-to-door campaigns across all local government areas, highlighting the governor’s achievements and future plans to residents.
“Let us carry out door-to-door mobilisation across all local governments, showcasing what the governor has achieved and what he intends to do. Engage people within your communities and communicate the governor’s programmes effectively,” he added.
Political observers note that celebrity involvement in Nigerian elections is not new.
In previous election cycles, entertainers have played visible roles in mobilising voters, particularly during the 2023 general elections, where youth participation surged significantly.
