Trump claims his intervention stopped eight Iranian women being executed

US President Donald Trump has claimed that eight Iranian women sentenced to death were spared execution following his intervention ahead of ongoing ceasefire talks.

Trump announced on his Truth Social platform that the executions had been halted, stating that four of the women would be released immediately while the remaining four would serve one-month prison sentences.

“I have just been informed that the eight women protestors who were going to be executed tonight in Iran will no longer be killed,” he said, adding that he appreciated Iran’s leadership for respecting his request.

The women were reportedly sentenced to death for participating in protests against the Iranian government earlier this year.

There has been no official confirmation from Iran regarding Trump’s claims.

The development comes amid continued tensions between the United States and Iran, as both sides engage in fragile ceasefire discussions.

Earlier, Iranian forces reportedly fired on multiple vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route through which about 20 percent of the world’s oil and gas supplies pass.
The incident underscores ongoing risks to global energy markets, even as diplomatic efforts continue.

While Trump has said the United States would extend the ceasefire, Washington is maintaining its blockade of Iranian ports, a move that continues to strain negotiations.

Iran has not formally acknowledged the ceasefire extension, with reports suggesting talks may not resume unless the blockade is lifted.
