“There’s no guarantee Atiku would win Peter Obi at ADC primaries” – Dele Momodu

Publisher and African Democratic Congress chieftain, Dele Momodu has said that there was no guarantee that Atiku Abubakar would have emerged as the presidential flagbearer of the coalition party.

Momodu said this during an interview on Channels Television on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.

The ADC chieftain explained that the party had already planned to throw the contest for its presidential ticket open.

He said Peter Obi, a former leader of the coalition party, chose to defect from the ADC because of legal challenges facing the party.

He said, “There was no guarantee that Atiku would even defeat Peter Obi in the primaries because they were going to throw it open, he chose to go and that was part of the reasons he gave was that there were too many litigations here and there,” Momodu said.

Wishing the former Obi well in his political endeavour, Momodu said the former Anambra governor has the right to test his political influence and popularity under any platform he desires.

“We don’t know where he has gone to now, if there are any litigations or not. It doesn’t matter to me, I wish him the best, he’s not my enemy.

“It’s good that he goes and tests his popularity elsewhere and others also.

“But, you cannot force Atiku out because a man says if Kwankwaso and I come together by 12 O’clock, the elections would be over,” he added.
