Reps Deputy Speaker, Kalu Signs Tinubu’s APC Presidential Nomination Form

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has signed the nomination form of President Bola Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 general elections.

Kalu described the endorsement as a “beautiful birthday gift,” saying it gave him an opportunity to reaffirm his support for the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The lawmaker, who represents Bende Federal Constituency in Abia State, marked his 55th birthday on May 5, 2026.

He signed the form on Tuesday alongside the member representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, James Faleke, and the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

In a statement posted on his 𝕏 handle on Wednesday, Kalu said he considered it a rare privilege to endorse the President’s nomination form.

He said the symbolic signing reflected his commitment to the continuity of Tinubu’s administration beyond 2027.

Kalu said, “Yesterday, I had the rare privilege of endorsing and signing the nomination form of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, presented by the Member representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, Hon. James Faleke, alongside the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

“This was indeed a beautiful birthday gift, to have had the opportunity of reaffirming my support and commitment to the continuity of the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda as we look ahead to the 2027 elections.”

The Deputy Speaker added that he and other leaders remained committed to working with the President to deepen reforms and improve the lives of Nigerians.

“We remain resolute in our pledge to work with Mr. President in delivering transformative reforms that will advance our nation’s development and improve the lives of our people,” Kalu said.

Umahi Earlier Signed Form

Naija News reports that Kalu’s endorsement came barely a day after the Minister of Works, David Umahi, also signed Tinubu’s nomination form.

Umahi had earlier described the form as a “victory form” and a step towards sustaining ongoing national development efforts.

In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Francis Nwaze, the minister said the endorsement was not merely a political gesture but a commitment to continuity and consolidation.

Umahi described the signing as “a defining moment in Nigeria’s ongoing development journey,” adding that it reflected “a collective commitment to continuity, stability, and the consolidation of gains recorded under the current administration.”

He said the Tinubu administration had begun major reforms that required continuity to deliver their full benefits to Nigerians.

Recall that Faleke, who also serves as the founder of the Tinubu Support Groups, had earlier obtained the All Progressives Congress (APC) Expression of Interest and Nomination forms on behalf of the President.

The forms were collected in Abuja after the process was declared open by the APC National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Argungu.

The procurement of the forms, valued at N100m, formally signalled the commencement of Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Faleke has remained one of the President’s close political allies and has been actively involved in mobilising support for Tinubu within and outside the ruling party.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027.

According to the electoral timetable, governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will hold on February 6, 2027.
