Speaking at a press conference in Bauchi on Tuesday, the national coordinator of the PRP Glory Restoration Group (GRG), Barrister Idrees S. Gambo, said the party considers the governor a key political figure and has therefore extended an open invitation for him to consider PRP as his next political destination.
Gambo described the PRP as a stable, crisis-free platform that offers opportunities for collaboration, growth, and collective progress.
“We are prepared to set aside personal interests in favour of the greater good of Bauchi State. That is the essence of this engagement,” he said.
He noted that the party has been closely monitoring recent political developments, particularly moves by major parties to persuade Governor Bala to defect from his faction within the PDP to either the APC or ADC.
“As active participants in the political arena, we believe it would be inappropriate to remain passive observers, especially given the importance of the personality involved and the historical relevance of our party in Bauchi State,” Gambo added.
Addressing journalists alongside members of the PRP Bauchi State executive, he recalled the party’s performance in the 2019 general elections, where it secured victories in Bauchi federal constituency and Katagum federal constituency seats in the House of Representatives, despite not fielding a presidential candidate.
“This achievement clearly demonstrates the strength and electoral potential of our party when effectively mobilised,” he said.
Gambo also expressed concern over what he described as a growing drift toward a one-party system in Nigeria, stressing that strengthening credible alternative platforms remains key to safeguarding democracy.
“The PRP stands out as a people-oriented party rooted in socialist principles. Established in 1976, with roots in earlier progressive movements such as NEPU, it remains the oldest surviving political party in Nigeria, sustained by a clear ideological foundation,” he stated.
He added that while the PRP has consistently played the role of a constructive opposition in Bauchi State, holding the government accountable, it also recognises the efforts of the current administration.

“Although we may not agree with all government policies, we acknowledge that the administration has made notable efforts in serving the people. However, from our ideological standpoint, particularly on social welfare, more still needs to be done,” he said.
Gambo argued that aligning with the PRP would provide the ideological depth required to enhance governance and prioritise citizens’ welfare.
He further emphasised that political direction should be determined by the people rather than external influences.
“Bauchi State has historically demonstrated political independence. In 2019, the state recorded a diverse political landscape, showing that voters prioritise credibility and performance over elite alliances,” he said.
He reiterated that the PRP remains open to new entrants and is committed to the state’s overall development.
Meanwhile, recent developments indicate that Governor Bala Mohammed has discontinued consultations with the All Progressives Congress (APC) over a proposed defection.
The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State, loyal to the governor, Pharm. Sama’ila Adamu Burga disclosed that the party is now exploring alternative political options outside the APC.
Burga explained that the initial discussions were initiated by the APC, which invited the governor, PDP members, and elected officials in the state to consider joining the party.
According to him, Governor Mohammed participated in the talks out of respect for the individuals involved and in line with his commitment to dialogue and inclusiveness.
