The Rivers State Police Command has dissolved all tactical teams in the state and warned officers against extortion and other forms of unprofessional conduct.

The command said the move was part of efforts to enhance operational efficiency, professionalism and restore public confidence in policing.

It also announced the creation of a new formation, the Violent Crime Response Unit, to handle cases of violent crime.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Blessing Agabe, disclosed this in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

Agabe said the directive was in line with ongoing reforms by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and is being implemented under the leadership of the state Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju.

The statement read, “Following this directive, all disbanded Tactical Teams have been consolidated into a single, specialised formation known as the Violent Crime Response Unit.

“The unit is mandated to respond swiftly and decisively to incidents of violent crime, while adhering to established rules of engagement and respect for fundamental human rights.
