A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kogi State, Muhammad Abdullahi, on Monday purchased his nomination and expression of interest forms to contest the Kogi East Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
Abdullahi, who obtained the forms at the PDP-designated office in Abuja, is seeking to unseat the incumbent senator, Jibrin Isah of the ruling All Progressives Congress, who is eyeing a third term in office.
The PDP aspirant arrived at the venue with scores of supporters and loyalists dressed in white kaftans and matching caps, signalling a show of strength as he formally joined the race.
Speaking shortly after picking the forms, Abdullahi said his decision followed extensive consultations with stakeholders and constituents across the district.
“I have taken this step after wide consultations with stakeholders, leaders and the good people of Kogi East. This ambition is driven by a genuine desire to serve and to provide the quality representation our people truly deserve at the Senate,” he said.
He noted that his ambition was anchored on the need to deepen development in Kogi East and ensure stronger representation at the national level.
“Kogi East must not remain on the margins of national development. I am prepared to bring our concerns to the front burner and work tirelessly to attract projects and opportunities that will uplift our people,” Abdullahi said.
Reiterating his grassroots connection and philanthropic record, the senatorial hopeful said his years of community service had prepared him for the task ahead.
“My journey has always been about impacting lives—from supporting education and small businesses to improving access to basic amenities. This is not a new path for me; it is a continuation of what I have always stood for,” he added.
Abdullahi also pledged to prioritise empowerment, infrastructure development and youth engagement if elected, stressing that inclusive governance would be central to his representation.
“Our people deserve better opportunities—jobs for the youths, support for entrepreneurs, quality education and improved infrastructure. These are not just promises; they are commitments I intend to pursue with dedication and accountability,” he said.
He called on PDP members and voters across the senatorial district to rally behind his aspiration, assuring them of transparent leadership and equitable representation.
“I seek your support and your trust. Together, we can build a more prosperous and united Kogi East where no community is left behind,” Abdullahi declared.
Abdullahi’s entry into the race comes as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, with aspirants across parties positioning for primaries expected in 2026.
The Kogi East senatorial contest is expected to be keenly contested, particularly with the incumbent seeking another term, setting the stage for a competitive race in the district.
