NANS Elects OAUSTECH Student Babatunde As New President

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has elected Akinteye Babatunde from Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology as its new national president.

Naija News reports that the election took place during the 2026 national convention held at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja.

Babatunde, who once served as NANS Senate President, won the election after a tight contest involving five candidates. He now takes over from Olushola Oladoja, who has completed his term as national president.

The election was held under heavy security, with police officers and operatives of the Department of State Services present at the venue. Participants said the process went on peacefully without any form of disruption.

After being declared winner, Babatunde thanked the delegates for choosing him and promised to build on the progress made by the outgoing leadership. He also said his focus would be on strengthening unity among students across the country.

He further stated that the convention stood out as one of the most peaceful in the history of the association, noting that there were no clashes or disputes during the voting process. He also said other contestants had accepted the result and congratulated him.

The new president assured students that his leadership would soon be felt across campuses nationwide and that the association would remain active in addressing student welfare and concerns.

Oladoja, the outgoing president, described the election process as one of the most fulfilling moments of his leadership. He expressed confidence in Babatunde’s ability to lead the association well and wished him success in office.

The chairperson of the Independent Convention Planning Committee said more than 300 delegates took part in the election.

The delegates included student union leaders from different tertiary institutions across Nigeria. The presidential race featured candidates from OAUSTECH, Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Federal University of Technology Akure, Olabisi Onabanjo University, and Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta.
