Lagos LG chair inaugurates 2026 procurement committee, pledges transparency

The Executive Chairman of Epe Local Government, Lagos State, Surah Animashaun, has inaugurated the 2026 Procurement Statutory Committee as part of efforts to strengthen transparency, accountability, and efficient management of public resources.

Animashaun performed the inauguration at the council secretariat in Ita-Marun, Epe, on Sunday.

Speaking at the event, the chairperson stressed that accountability remained central to her administration, noting that members of the committee were individuals of integrity.

She said the inauguration marked efforts to ensure strict adherence to due process in the council.

Animashaun, according to a statement made available to PUNCH Online, explained that the establishment of the Procurement Statutory Committee aligned with her administration’s objectives of promoting sound financial management.

She emphasised that public funds must be handled with a high level of responsibility, transparency, and in accordance with procurement laws.

The chairman urged members of the committee to discharge their duties with integrity, professionalism, and fairness, noting that their role was critical to safeguarding public trust and ensuring value for money in government projects.

“The Procurement Statutory Committee is expected to oversee and regulate all procurement processes within the local government, ensuring compliance with existing regulations, preventing financial mismanagement, and promoting competitive and transparent bidding processes,” she said.

The statement noted that with the initiative, Epe LG aims to enhance the execution of developmental projects, improve infrastructural delivery, and ensure that public resources are utilised judiciously for the benefit of the people.
