Lagos APC says by-election victories as referendum on Tinubu’s Presidency

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has described the outcome of the recent by-elections in Rivers State, Kano State and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, as a referendum on the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.

In a statement issued on Sunday by its spokesperson, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, the party expressed appreciation to voters in the affected constituencies and across the country for what it termed “overwhelming support” for the ruling party.

According to the Lagos APC, the victories recorded by its candidates reaffirm public confidence in President Tinubu’s administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“The outcome of the by-elections across the affected constituencies stands as a clear and unmistakable referendum on the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the progressive ideals guiding governance in our nation,” the statement read.

The party argued that the results reflected voter endorsement of ongoing economic reforms, infrastructure expansion and institutional strengthening at the federal and state levels.

It maintained that despite criticisms from opposition parties, Nigerians had demonstrated trust in what it described as bold and courageous leadership.

“At a time when detractors have sought to misrepresent the direction of the country, the people have spoken decisively through the ballot,” the party stated, adding that nation-building requires “patience, courage and continuity.”

The Lagos APC also took a swipe at opposition parties, describing them as “uninspiring” and accusing them of relying on rhetoric and sensationalism rather than presenting credible alternatives to voters.

It further argued that social media influence does not necessarily translate into electoral success, insisting that the by-election outcomes showed that political dominance online does not equate to acceptance at the polls.

“Democracy is ultimately decided by voters, not virtual trends,” the statement added.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the party suggested that the momentum from the by-elections signals continued support for the ruling party.

“If morning shows the day, then the forthcoming 2027 national elections may well be a walk in the park for the APC,” it said.

The Lagos APC commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for conducting the elections and praised security agencies for maintaining peace and order throughout the process.

It also lauded party members, campaign teams and volunteers for their grassroots mobilisation efforts.

The party reiterated its support for President Tinubu and called on Nigerians, including opposition members, to collaborate in what it described as the collective task of building a stronger and more united nation.
