Katsina disburses N328m allowances to medical students

The Katsina State Government on Saturday disbursed N328m for Phase I of the 2026 Medical Students’ Allowance Scheme, supporting 650 medical students across 33 accredited universities.

Governor Dikko Radda approved the initiative, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening human capital development in the health sector.

The General Manager of the Katsina State Hospital Services Management Board, Muhammad Nazir, confirmed the disbursement in a statement signed by the Board’z Secretary, Abu Usman, and made available to journalists on Saturday in Katsina.

The statement partly read, “The allowance covers medical students enrolled across universities within and outside Nigeria. The scheme is designed to alleviate financial constraints faced by students during their academic and professional training.

“This is a strategic investment by the state government to build a competent, resilient and service-oriented healthcare workforce capable of meeting the evolving health needs of Katsina State and the nation.

“The Katsina State Hospital Services Management Board implemented the initiative, coordinating the disbursement to eligible beneficiaries. The board ensures proper management and transparent distribution of government support.

“The initiative represents the government’s deliberate investment in healthcare workforce development. By supporting medical students, the state ensures a pipeline of qualified healthcare professionals.

“Additional phases are expected to follow, continuing the state government’s commitment to healthcare human capital development.”
