The committee was announced on Wednesday by the Speaker, Hon. Jibrin Ismaila Falgore, shortly after reading a letter from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at plenary requesting the screening and confirmation of the nominee.

Garo was nominated following the resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abussalam Gwarzo, last month. The governor, in his letter, said the nomination was in line with Section 191(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers a governor to appoint a deputy where a vacancy exists.

The screening committee, chaired by the Deputy Speaker of the House, comprises principal officers of the House, including the Majority Leader, Deputy Majority Leader, and Chief Whip. Other members include lawmakers representing Fagge, Sumaila, Warawa, Dawakin Kudu, and Tudun Wada constituencies, among others.
