Honeywell-backed foundation expands infrastructure at Ogun varsity

The Oba Otudeko Foundation, Honeywell Group’s social impact vehicle, has delivered a 2,400-square-metre administrative complex at Olabisi Onabanjo University’s main campus in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, aimed at strengthening institutional capacity.

The facility, now operational, houses key administrative units and is expected to improve coordination, operational efficiency, and service delivery across the institution, according to a statement on Wednesday.

The project comes amid infrastructure gaps in Nigeria’s higher education system, where universities face rising demand for quality learning environments alongside capacity constraints. The intervention focuses on strengthening administrative systems that support governance, student services, and academic operations.

Spokesperson of the Foundation, Yewande Giwa, said the project reflects a focus on building institutional resilience.

“The Oba Otudeko Foundation recognises that true educational excellence depends on the strength of the systems and structures that support teaching, learning, and research.

 This administrative building reflects our belief that a great university is powered not only by its academic output, but also by the quality of its governance, coordination, and student-facing services.

“By reinforcing the institutional framework that enables innovation and effective learning, we are advancing our pillars of education and entrepreneurship, and strengthening systems that will continue to shape future leaders, build resilient enterprises, and drive sustainable progress for years to come.”

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the OOU Governing Council, Prof Toyin Ashiru, said the project addresses longstanding infrastructure challenges within the university.

“The Oba Otudeko Administrative Building stands as both a functional and symbolic milestone in our institutional journey. It directly addresses one of our most pressing challenges – the shortage of adequate office space – while enhancing operational efficiency, staff productivity, and service delivery to our students and stakeholders. Dr Oba Otudeko’s longstanding commitment to education continues to create meaningful impact, reinforcing a legacy that has supported the progress of this University for decades,” he stated.

The new complex forms part of a broader portfolio of education-focused investments led by the Chairman of Honeywell Group, Dr. Oba Otudeko, aimed at strengthening institutional capacity.

These include the Honeywell Auditorium at Lagos Business School, among other initiatives designed to support learning environments and leadership development.

Beyond infrastructure, Honeywell Group also runs the Honeywell Excellence Programme, which focuses on equipping graduates with business and leadership skills.

The Foundation said its interventions in education and enterprise development are targeted at strengthening institutions and expanding opportunities for long-term economic development.
