An Arizona woman who accused ex-major league pitcher Trevor Bauer of sexual assault has been indicted on charges of fraud and extortion in Maricopa County Superior Court. The indictment alleges that the woman, who remains unnamed, engaged in a scheme involving Bauer and another individual, with details spanning several years.
In her lawsuit against Bauer in 2022, the woman claimed she was sexually assaulted and impregnated by him in late 2020. However, Bauer countered with a claim of a consensual encounter and accused the woman of fabricating the pregnancy as a means of extortion.
Bauer’s legal team stated that the woman demanded several million dollars from him, leading to him ultimately paying $8,761 for expenses related to the alleged pregnancy and its termination. The woman later asserted she had a miscarriage and did not end the pregnancy as previously claimed.
The woman is set to face criminal charges next week and is currently without legal representation in the fraud case. Bauer, who has been pushing to resume his baseball career after a suspension for policy violations, continues to maintain his innocence in the alleged incidents.
Following his release from the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2023, Bauer played overseas with the Yokohama DeNA BayStars and recently signed with Mexico’s Diablos Rojos for a limited number of games. His return to the mound saw him pitching against the New York Yankees in a spring exhibition, as he seeks to put the controversies behind him and focus on his professional sports career.
