Australian former NRL star Blake Ferguson‘s contract with the Kurri Kurri Bulldogs in the semi-professional Newcastle Rugby League has been abruptly terminated after just one game.
Ferguson, who previously played a pivotal role with the Leigh Leopards in their 2022 promotion, found himself released from his obligations with the Bulldogs amidst off-field allegations that stirred discontent among his teammates.
Adam Devcich, the general manager of the Newcastle Rugby League, confirmed Ferguson’s contract termination, stating that it was a mutual agreement and that no further comments would be made by either party.
Throughout his tumultuous career, Ferguson, who has also had stints in Japan playing Rugby Union, faced several controversies, including a conviction for indecent assault while playing for the Canberra Raiders and later disruptions during his time with the Sydney Roosters and State of Origin.
After a successful spell with the Leigh Leopards, including winning the RFL 1895 Cup, Ferguson returned to play for the Kurri Kurri Bulldogs but now, at the age of 34, this incident likely marks the end of any aspirations Ferguson had of returning to the pinnacle of the sport.
