FG Announces Partial Closure Of Ikorodu-Sagamu Road

The Federal Ministry of Works has announced that parts of the Ikorodu-Sagamu Road will be partially closed from Monday as reconstruction work continues on the highway.

Naija News reports that the Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Mr. Olayiwola Komolafe, disclosed this in a statement released on Saturday. He explained that the decision was taken after the Minister of Works, David Umahi, directed the contractor handling the project, Messrs Arab Contractors, to return to important sections of the road and speed up completion of the reconstruction.

According to the ministry, the affected areas include the section between Ikorodu Roundabout and Sabo Junction in Lagos, as well as the stretch from Cement to Coca-Cola inward Sagamu.

Komolafe stated that motorists travelling from Ikorodu toward Sagamu would pass through the construction sections under a counterflow traffic arrangement while work is ongoing.

He explained that the project would continue for about three months to allow the contractor complete the road works and also give enough time for the rigid pavement to properly cure.

The controller added that officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority would be stationed around the affected areas to control traffic and reduce congestion during the construction period.

He appealed to drivers and other road users to cooperate with traffic officers and security personnel managing movement on the road.

Komolafe also said the ministry was aware that the reconstruction exercise could cause discomfort for commuters and residents using the route, adding that efforts were being made to complete the work as quickly as possible.
