Ekiti APC leaders back Senate spokesman’s return

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti South Senatorial District have thrown their weight behind the Senate spokesman, Adeyemi Adaramodu, positioning him as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 senatorial election.

The endorsement, which emerged after a series of consultations among party leaders and grassroots representatives, signals an early move by the APC to stabilise its structure in the district and avoid internal contestation ahead of the polls.

The decision was contained in a resolution and minutes of the stakeholders’ meeting made available to journalists in Abuja on Saturday, and formally communicated to the Ekiti State APC leadership.

Adaramodu, who chairs the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, currently represents Ekiti South in the National Assembly, having won the seat in the 2023 elections after defeating then-incumbent Biodun Olujimi.

He also previously served in the House of Representatives between 2019 and 2023.

According to the stakeholders, the consensus arrangement followed “wide consultations” across wards and local government areas in the senatorial district, in line with the party’s directive encouraging internal agreement where feasible.

The endorsement letter, signed by the Senatorial District Chairman, Akindele Olusola, alongside other party executives including Idowu Dare, Gabriel Omoniyi, Oyebode Kayode, Olajide Falae, Akinseye Adebayo, and Chief Clement Ojo, emphasised unity and continuity as key factors in the decision.

It read in part: “Following due consultations with stakeholders, leaders, and members of the All Progressives Congress in Wards, Local Governments and District and in line with directive of the party to adopt consensus where possible, we hereby affirm that Senator Adeyemi Raphael Adaramodu has emerged as the consensus candidate of our party for the position of Senator in the forthcoming senatorial election (2027).”

The stakeholders said the decision was reached at a meeting held on April 13, 2026, at the senatorial office along Moshood Road, noting that it recorded “overwhelming support and no dissent.”

They added that the choice of Adaramodu reflected “the will of party members and the need for unity, stability and victory for APC in the district,” urging the state working committee to ratify the decision and take necessary steps to formalise his candidacy.

The development is seen within party circles as part of broader efforts to strengthen cohesion in Ekiti APC structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
