EFCC arrests suspected fake lawyer over forged NBA seal in Lagos

Operatives of the Lagos zonal directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested a suspected fake lawyer, John Anoruo, over alleged possession of a forged Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) seal.

Anoruo was arrested on April 20 in the Ikorodu area of Lagos after he was suspected of operating a legal and educational consultancy.

The commission said the case originated from a petition submitted by Anoruo on behalf of his clients against Global West Vessel Specialist Nigeria Limited.

The petition, dated September 22, 2025, was followed by a letter of withdrawal dated March 5, 2026.

Investigations revealed that both documents bore a forged NBA seal. The EFCC said the suspect confessed to obtaining the seal from a business centre in Lagos.

The 55-year-old said he obtained a law degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 2018. He, however, admitted that he did not attend the Nigerian Law School.

The EFCC said the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
