Desmond Elliot obtains APC nomination form, seeks return to Lagos assembly

Nollywood actor-turned-lawmaker, Desmond Elliot, has obtained the All Progressives Congress nomination form to seek a return to the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Surulere Constituency I.

In a statement on Sunday shared on his Facebook page, Elliot formally informed constituents, party stakeholders, and residents of his decision to contest again, describing it as a continuation of his service to the area.

“My dear good people of Surulere Constituency 1, I greet you all with profound respect and gratitude. I wish to formally inform all Surulereians, workers, residents, political associates, leaders, stakeholders, and the good people of Surulere, that I have obtained the nomination form to seek a return mandate to the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Surulere Constituency 1,” he said.

He said the move was motivated by his desire to consolidate on past efforts and deepen development in the constituency.

“This decision is borne out of a continued commitment to serve, to consolidate on the progress we have made together, and to further advance the collective aspirations of our people,” Elliot stated.

The lawmaker also appealed for calm and unity among his supporters as political activities continue.

“I urge all my supporters to remain calm, steadfast, and focused. Let us continue to uphold peace, unity, and respect as we move forward in this political journey together,” he said.

Elliot added that returning to the House would position him as a ranking member, which he said would benefit his constituency.

“May I state here that my going back makes me automatically a ranking member and loads of benefits come to our constituency as a result of this feat,” he said.

He further expressed appreciation to party leaders, stakeholders, and community groups for their support, pledging continued service and collaboration.

Elliot’s latest declaration comes days after he dismissed reports of a rift with the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, insisting there was no disagreement between them.

Speaking earlier during a visit to his constituency, he reaffirmed loyalty to Gbajabiamila, who is currently Chief of Staff to the President, while also appealing for continued political support.

“I don’t have any issue with him. Our leader is a compassionate leader, a leader of thought. I mean, we are children. Children sometimes err. If I have erred in any way, my leader, I am sorry,” he said.

He added, “Give me another chance and let’s move on, and let’s bring more dividends of democracy to the people.”
