Carter Efe reacts as Babcock varsity breaks silence over ‘first class upper’ certificate

Babcock University has denied claims by comedian and content creator, Oderhowho Joseph Efe, popularly known as Carter Efe that he graduated from the institution with a “first class upper” in Biochemistry.

The university said the certificate circulating online in Carter Efe’s name is not authentic and was not issued by the institution.

The controversy began after Carter Efe stated during an interview that he studied at Babcock University and graduated with outstanding academic results. 

He later shared a document online, which he described as his graduation certificate dated 2023.

In response, Babcock University issued a statement rejecting the document, saying it is not recognised by the school and contains details that are inconsistent with its academic system.

The institution explained that it does not issue honorary certificates for undergraduate academic performance and does not use the term “First Class Upper” as a classification.

It stated that the official academic recognition is First Class Honours, which is awarded only through degree certificates and academic transcripts issued by the Office of the Registrar.

The statement read: “Babcock University unequivocally states that this document is false, unauthorized, and does not emanate from the University.

“Babcock University does not issue “Honorary Certificates” in recognition of undergraduate academic performance.

“Academic excellence, including the award of First Class Honours, is formally recognized only through the University’s official degree certificate and academic transcript issued by the Office of the Registrar.

“Accordingly, all persons responsible for the production, issuance, circulation, or use of the fraudulent certificate and any similar unauthorised documents are hereby directed to immediately cease and desist from such unlawful acts,” the statement said.

Babcock University also warned that it could take legal action against individuals involved in producing or circulating the document.

“Babcock University warns the public of forged certificates in circulation, including fake “Honorary” ones with a non-existent “First Class Upper” classification. We DO NOT issue such documents. “First Class Upper” doesn’t exist here. Legal action underway.”

“The University will not hesitate to pursue all available legal remedies to protect the integrity of its academic credentials and institutional reputation,” they added.

Reacting to the developments, Carter Efe said: “Babcock, I hear say Babcock una dey look for me. Una no go see me. Before una go see me, una go pay N100,000 for ticket, and we are coming to Babcock soon.”
