A State High Court in Adamawa has ordered the immediate suspension of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) congresses scheduled to commence today, following a suit filed by a factional state chairman, Shehu Yohanna.

The ruling comes against the backdrop of an escalating leadership crisis within the party in the state, where at least three factions are currently laying claim to control of its structure.
One of the factions is loyal to former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, who is reportedly backing former Governor Jibrilla Bindow for the 2027 governorship race.
Another faction is aligned with Senator Aisha Binani, while the third is led by Shehu Yohanna, who insists he remains the authentic state chairman, having led the party prior to its adoption as a coalition platform.
Meanwhile, a former lawmaker, Senator Ishaku Abbo, who was previously aligned with Babachir Lawal’s camp, has announced his decision to boycott the congresses.

Abbo accused the party leadership of failing to engage in meaningful negotiations with Aisha Binani over the control and structure of the party in the state.
Similarly, Aisha Binani, who is also eyeing the governorship ticket under the ADC, has rejected the legitimacy of the congresses being organised by the Babachir Lawal-backed faction, declaring her boycott of the exercise.
