I spent 21 years waiting to die, Lagos man recounts journey from death row to freedom

Valentine Idris Sani has shared his story of how he was allegedly wrongfully accused of robbery and conspiracy, leading to his imprisonment at a young age. According to him, he was picked up after identifying a friend who had been apprehended and beaten, only to be accused, tortured and handed over to the police, a process he said eventually led to his conviction despite lacking evidence.

He said he spent about 21 years behind bars, losing the prime of his youth to incarceration. Now out of prison, Sani says he h as turned a new chapter in life as an ordained pastor, reflecting on his journey and the years he says were taken from him.
