A WALMART shopper has sent a message out to fellow customers on a controversial topic.
The customer took to X, formerly Twitter, to tell other customers that they did not have to cooperate with receipt checks.

Donovan Isom (@TrackModeDon) told customers to keep walking out of the exit if they were asked to show their proof of purchase.
“Yall know yall not obligated to stop & let the walmart receipt checker check yall receipt,” he said in the post.
The X user added that he was previously unaware of this.
“I just found out,” he added.
Receipt checks at retailers like Walmart have proved to be a controversial measure among customers.
The number of shoppers who have complained about the measure has risen over the past few months.
The U.S. Sun has previously reported on attorneys who have explained when shoppers do and do not have to show their proof of purchase to staff.
Lawyer Alex Colangelo shared that store loss prevention staff do not have the power to arrest shoppers like police do.
“They have much more limited powers of arrest under the criminal code,” he said.
“They can ask you to show your receipt and you can consensually allow them to do it.
“But there is no power or authority to detain you if you say no.”
Colangelo also shared that this would apply to stores like Walmart but not retailers like Costco.
He explained that Costco is a membership store so customers would have agreed to show their receipts to staff when they accepted the terms and conditions of the membership.
However, it’s important to note that other lawyers have suggested that it may be better to just comply and show your receipt.
This is because certain states have a shopkeeper’s privilege law, which allows stores to detain customers if they have probable cause.
In other words, if they suspect that you may have stolen something and you refuse to show your receipt, they can legally detain you until cops arrive.
The U.S. Sun has reached out to Walmart for comment.
