Yobe APC chieftain picks gov form, seeks fair primary

A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, Kashim Tumsah, has obtained his nomination form ahead of the party’s primary election in Yobe State.

Tumsah picked the form at the party’s secretariat, formally declaring his intention to contest.

In a statement issued on Friday, the aspirant pledged to abide by due process and internal democracy.

“I am fully committed to participating actively in this process, guided by the principles of transparency, fairness, and party unity,” he said.

He also urged his supporters to remain peaceful and law-abiding throughout the political process.

‎“I call on all my supporters to remain focused, peaceful, and resolute as we move forward,” he added.

Tumsah, an international petroleum lawyer, expressed concern over the reported endorsement of another aspirant, warning that such moves could undermine unity within the party.

‎“Endorsements without broad-based engagement among aspirants risk undermining unity, equity, and fairness within our party,” Tumsah stated.

He called on the party’s national leadership to remain neutral and ensure a credible primary.

‎“I urge the national leadership in Abuja to remain vigilant and ensure strict neutrality. Any attempt to manipulate the process in favour of any individual could damage the credibility of our great party,” he said.

Tumsah also urged party officials to guarantee a level playing field, warning that perceived bias could weaken confidence in the process.

The APC is expected to conduct its governorship primary in Yobe State in the coming weeks.
