In a groundbreaking move, the Nigerian Government has given the green light for a substantial salary hike for civil servants spanning diverse sectors.
This approval encompasses an increment ranging between 25 per cent and 35 per cent across the remaining six Consolidated Salary Structures.
Emmanuel Njoku, Head of Press at the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC), disclosed this development during a briefing held in Abuja on Tuesday.
Njoku said: “The Federal Government has approved an increase of between 25 per cent and 35 per cent in salary for Civil Servants on the remaining six Consolidated Salary Structures.
“The Federal Government has approved an increase of between 25 per cent and 35 per cent in salary increase for Civil Servants on the remaining six Consolidated Salary Structures.
“They include Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS), Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS) and Consolidated Police Salary Structure (CONPOSS).
“Others are: Consolidated Para-military Salary Structure (CONPASS). Consolidated Intelligence Community Salary Structure (CONICCS) and Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure (CONAFSS).”
Effective from January 1, this salary increase signifies a pivotal stride towards enhancing the welfare of civil servants.
Furthermore, the Federal Government has approved boosts in pension, ranging from 20 per cent to 28 per cent, for retirees enrolled in the Defined Benefits Scheme under the same consolidated salary structures. These adjustments in pension are also set to commence from January 1st.
Njoku reiterated that these measures are in accordance with the provisions of Section 173(3) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), emphasizing the government’s dedication to upholding constitutional obligations and safeguarding the welfare of its workforce.
He highlighted that preceding this announcement, salary adjustments had already been instituted for professionals in the Tertiary Education and Health Sectors. These adjustments encompassed enhancements in structures such as the Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS), Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure (CONTISS), Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS), Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS), Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS), and Consolidated Health Sector Salary Structure (CONHESS).
