According to The News & Advance, Csorba hailed from Boydton, Mecklenburg County, Virginia, and was a runner in high school.

Csorba had an accomplished running career in which he received multiple accolades.

According to The News & Advance, he won the NCAA Division III national championship in Virginia Beach in early March 2024 alongside the rest of the University of Lynchburg’s distance medley relay team, which included Jacob Hodnett, Sam Llaneza and Chasen Hunt.

Csorba opened with the 1,200-meter leg, and the team ran a 9:47.17, finishing “with the best time in championship history,” per the publication.

He discussed the impressive win in a March 21, 2024, Instagram post.

“Still doesn’t feel real and probably won’t ever will… a season riddled with injuries, stuck on the track running endless circles, and limited volume ended in the best way possible. Winning a national title with the boys can’t think of a better way to win my first one,” he wrote, in part.

Per The News & Advance, Csorba earned the title of Division III athlete of the week by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on March 2, 2024.

The sports star “became the first male from the ODAC ever to win the award.

“Only three other track and field athletes from the ODAC, all females, had been awarded that honor.”

Csorba also earned a conference title while a student at Bluestone High School.

The university’s distance program honored Csorba in an Instagram post following his tragic death.

“It is with extremely heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our brother, teammate, and friend Frank Csorba,” the program wrote on its page, @lynchburg_distance.

“Since his first steps on campus, Frank was a light to so many, epitomizing the power of joy in the journey. Through the years, he lifted others to reach the impossible and smiled with every run. As a champion, warrior, and leader, he fought persistently to continue battling for his team.

“While we knew and loved our groundbreaking, record-setting national champion, we treasure the beautiful memories we have shared with our brother.

“We wish our condolences to the Csorba family and everyone who had the privilege of knowing this young man. Please respect the family’s privacy and thoughts during this time of grief.”

The university’s athletics Instagram account, @lynchburgsports, also shared a post in honor of Csorba.

“It is with the deepest sadness that we learned of the loss of one of our students. Frank Csorba, an undergraduate alumnus in criminology and graduate student in the master of public health program, passed away Tuesday,” the post said.

“Frank was a celebrated and decorated member of our cross country and track & field teams as a six-time All-American, and just last month shared the NCAA distance medley relay title with his teammates.

“Details regarding a memorial service will be communicated once available, and emotional support resources for the campus community have been provided.”

The university’s Instagram page, university.of.lynchburg, announced in a post that there would be a vigil for Csorba on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Shellenberger Field.
