“Who started this gentle parenting?” – Mary Njoku queries as her kids send two TVs to their early graves

Nollywood actress Mary Njoku has questioned who invented the concept of gentle parenting.

On her Instagram page, the ROK studio boss questions who said parents should negotiate with their kids, noting that she always speaks calmly to her kids, as if she were delivering a TED talk in a foreign language.

Mary said even her kids know that it won’t last and have sent two TV’s to their early graves.

“Please, who started this gentle parenting?

Who gathered all of us and said we should now begin to negotiate with tiny humans whose brains are still under construction?

Because explain to me why I am calmly saying, ‘Sweetheart, the glass centre table is not a stool. Like I’m delivering a TED Talk in a foreign language inside Balogun Market.

In a previous post, the media entrepreneur revealed that she couldn’t sleep as she pondered how her mother had raised eight kids and stayed sane. Meanwhile, she was finding it difficult and already losing it with just three kids.

In 2024, Njoku revealed that at times she feels she is nailing parenting, and the next, she wonders how they got there. The mother of three described parenting as a real jungle, noting that one has to expect the unexpected. Mary further stated that the love a mother has for her child must be agape, as she lamented how her kids were testing her patience.

The wife of Njoku shared a hilarious conversation between her and one of her daughters, who trolled her for not enjoying fancy things during her youthful days. Mary further revealed that her kids call her old when she isn’t even 40.

A while back, Njoku had counselled men on how to care for and love their women through postpartum. Enlightening them on what postpartum depression is, she told them to stop trying to revive the girl she once was and get to know the woman she has become.

Early last year, Njoku avowed that a mother shouldn’t be compelled to have a different name from her underage kids, unless she is allowed to change their names too. She noted that one cannot build a name over many years and be asked to change it because someone doesn’t want a divorce.

In 2023, Mary advised men on the importance of mothers to their children, noting that many men want their children to be brilliant, yet treat their wives like a lamb. The filmmaker pointed out how a fowl can’t raise a tiger, indirectly telling men that a gentle wife and mother can’t raise kids to be like tigers.
