Mica helped her husband with the church “in every way,” having served as the worship leader, women’s ministry leader, youth leader, graphics designer, and Pastor’s assistant.

WPDE of ABC15 News reported that Major Damien McLean with the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office said they are actively investigating her death.

The sheriff’s office confirmed Mica passed away at Lumber River State Park in the Orrum community of Robeson County.

ABC15 spoke with John-Paul about his late wife.

“She was probably the greatest wife anyone could ask for. She was incredibly affirming. We spent every night together for hours just talking and talking and talking,” he said.

According to the outlet, John-Paul said Mica died by suicide. However, her cause of death is yet to be confirmed by officials.

He also said Mica had been getting help for some mental health struggles.

“She had struggled with suicide before. Each time we would help her through it and take her to the doctor, and we got through it and everything was fine. She even gave a few testimonies here at church that we have on video. She battled suicide but God took care of her and got her through it.”

According to WPDE, “many of her friends are struggling to come to terms” with John-Paul saying Mica died by suicide.

“This has to be at least looked into deeply. There’s got to be some accountability here. Because yeah, a tragic life was lost, and it’s not just as simple as mental health issues,” said Mica’s friend Kenn Young.
