‘We’ll Stand By You’: Gov Sani Pledges Support to Family of Slain Clergyman Achi, Others in Hospital

‎Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, CON, visited the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna to personally console Mrs. Sarah Achi and her daughter, who were recently released from captivity after enduring a harrowing 78-day ordeal.

‎The visit came shortly after the tragic murder of Mrs. Achi’s husband, Venerable Edwin Achi, Priest-in-Charge of Ebenezer Anglican Church in Ungwan Maijero, who was abducted alongside his wife and daughter on October 28, 2025, by suspected bandits.

‎Venerable Achi was killed in captivity approximately a month later, despite efforts by family and the church to secure his release through ransom negotiations.

‎Accompanied by the Anglican Archbishop of Kaduna Province, Most Revd. Timothy Yahaya, Governor Sani met with the grieving widow and her daughter in a moment described as one of deep solemnity.

‎He conveyed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the state government as the family begins the difficult journey of grief, healing, and recovery.

‎Governor Sani assured Mrs. Achi of the Kaduna State Government’s unwavering support, promising comprehensive assistance that includes the provision of a home, full sponsorship of the children’s education, settlement of all medical expenses, and ongoing psychosocial care to facilitate their emotional recovery and successful reintegration into society.

‎These measures, he emphasized, underscore the administration’s firm commitment to standing firmly with victims of banditry and prioritizing compassion, justice, and human dignity in governance.

‎The governor also commended the security agencies for their professionalism, courage, and effective collaboration with the Kaduna State Government, which contributed to the successful release of the victims.

‎He noted that such dedication continues to build public confidence in the state’s security framework.

‎Before departing the hospital, Governor Sani extended his visit to other patients, offering words of encouragement and reaffirming his administration’s resolve to bolster healthcare delivery and security measures across Kaduna State.

‎The release of Mrs. Achi and her daughter on January 15, 2026, marked a bittersweet end to a prolonged nightmare that has drawn widespread attention to the persistent threat of kidnappings and violence against clergy and communities in parts of northern Nigeria.

‎This compassionate intervention by Governor Sani highlights ongoing efforts to support affected families amid the broader challenges of insecurity in the region.
