VIDEO: Outrage as dispatch rider eats customer’s small chops before delivery

A viral video circulating on X has sparked condemnation and public health concerns after a dispatch rider was caught on camera eating from a customer’s small chops order before delivery.

The footage, which surfaced on Saturday, shows the rider sitting by the roadside with several packs of small chops arranged out on the ground.

The individual, who was later identified as David Agburu, is seen opening the packs from the side, picking a piece of snacks from each pack, and eating them before resealing the packages to continue his delivery route.

Reacting to the issue on Saturday, the affected vendor, Larry Spice Ventures, issued a statement clarifying that the rider was not an employee but a third-party agent engaged through the ride-hailing and delivery platform, InDrive.

In a public statement issued on Saturday, the management wrote, “It has come to the attention of the management of Larry Spice Ventures that a video is currently circulating online showing a delivery person consuming items from a package of small chops meant for one of our customers.

“We wish to state clearly and unequivocally that the individual in question, Mr. David Egbere Agburu, is NOT an ‘Employee’ of Larry Spice Ventures. He was engaged solely as a third-party delivery rider through I.N.D Mobile Technologies Ltd (popularly known as InDrive), to facilitate a customer delivery.”

The company added that they have officially reported the matter to InDrive and are cooperating with investigations

“The conduct displayed in this video is entirely unacceptable and falls far below the standards we demand.

“We are actively taking the necessary steps, including formally reporting the matter to I.N.D Mobile Technologies Ltd (InDrive) and cooperating fully with any appropriate investigation.

“He’s been arrested and handed over to the necessary authorities,” the company added while responding to comments on Instagram.

This incident has renewed calls for stricter regulations within the logistics sector, with many customers now demanding that food vendors adopt “tamper-proof” seals or stapled bags to ensure that orders remain untouched between the kitchen and the doorstep.

Molara Wood, who tweets as #molarawood on X, expressed shock at the rider’s “total lack of concern or shame,” describing the act as a “moral failing” rather than a consequence of hunger.

“Fingers dipped into people’s food and packs placed carelessly on the ground… this is a huge public health risk,” she noted via her X handle.

Other users urged food vendors to adopt more secure packaging methods.

One user, #tedlapidus45, suggested that vendors “endeavour to wrap all foods going out for delivery with cling film” to ensure customers can detect if their orders have been tampered with.
