A community leader, speaking for the family, reported that a hospital turned down a request to examine the girl for abuse, stating that a letter from the police was required for the examination.

The Kwara State Police Command has strongly refuted these allegations. Spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi asserted that the 16-year-old was arrested not for being a relative, but for actively hiding her brother, who is a suspect in a criminal case, and has since been released.
