Uba Sani has renewed our hope — Kaduna pensioners

The Kaduna State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, has commended Governor Uba Sani for approving the release of N4.289 billion for the payment of gratuities, death benefits and accrued rights, describing him as a worthy ambassador of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

In a letter of appreciation signed by its State Executive Chairman, Aboman Ladan, and Secretary, Alhassan Balarabe Musa, the union said the gesture has brought relief to pensioners and rekindled confidence among members awaiting their entitlements.

According to the union, the intervention “has not only put smiles on the faces of pensioners but has gone a step further in renewing their hope on all other pending entitlements.”

Last week, Governor Sani had approved the disbursement of N4.289 billion to retired civil servants and families of deceased workers across state and local government services.

The approval covers payments under the Contributory Pension Scheme (accrued rights) and the Defined Benefit Scheme (gratuities and death benefits), benefiting a total of 1,637 individuals.

A breakdown shows that N3.915 billion will be paid to 1,392 pensioners under the Contributory Pension Scheme, while 245 beneficiaries under the Defined Benefit Scheme will receive N374 million.

The union noted that the “timely intervention has brought great relief and renewed hope to many of our members who have waited patiently for years,” adding that for bereaved families, the gesture has eased burdens and restored faith in government.

“We are truly grateful for your compassion and for keeping the welfare of senior citizens at the heart of your administration. You are indeed an ambassador of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” the letter stated.

However, the union also reminded the governor of outstanding pension liabilities, noting that some retirees—particularly the elderly—are yet to receive their entitlements.

The letter, dated April 16, 2026, with reference number NUP/KDS/HQ/VOL.2/25, expressed confidence in the governor’s commitment to clearing all outstanding obligations.

It added that with the latest disbursement, the Sani administration has paid a cumulative N17.796 billion since assuming office, benefiting no fewer than 8,344 retirees and families of deceased workers.
