Turkey: Osimhen sets record in Galatasaray’s 3-0 win over Fenerbahçe

Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen, reached a significant milestone during Galatasaray’s impressive 3-0 win over Fenerbahçe in an Intercontinental Derby match at Rams Park on Sunday evening.

In his first start since returning from an injury that kept him out for five weeks, the Nigeria international opened the scoring just five minutes before halftime.

Osimhen skillfully controlled the ball with his chest and instinctively finished with his knee, although a second-half attempt was disallowed for offside only seven minutes after the restart.

As one of the designated penalty takers for the Lions, the Super Eagles star permitted Barış Alper Yılmaz to extend the lead from the penalty spot in the 67th minute, before former Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira added further polish to the scoreline with seven minutes left.

According to the football analysts at Whoscored, Osimhen recorded eight attempts from within the box against Fenerbahçe, setting a record for a single Super Lig match this season.

The Nigerian also showcased his aerial prowess, winning a game-high five aerial duels.

Of his eight attempts from inside the box, three were on target, while only Leroy Sané surpassed his tally of three key passes.

This season, Osimhen has achieved 20 goals and seven assists in 31 appearances across all competitions.
