The Ministry emphasizes the prohibition against stopping on road verges to watch the eclipse, citing the need to keep emergency lanes clear. Motorists are also urged not to be distracted by the sudden darkness that will occur during the eclipse.
To ensure smooth traffic flow during the eclipse day, Transport Quebec has deployed additional staff to monitor the road network. Collaboration with partners is in place to manage traffic optimally, with enhanced road signage at critical points and minimal disruptions in some regions.
Motorists are reminded not to wear eclipse glasses while driving as these can obstruct visibility. Looking directly at the eclipse with the naked eye or through vehicle windows, even if tinted, is strongly discouraged.
The upcoming eclipse on April 8th will see the moon passing in front of the sun, completely enveloping certain regions of North America from Mexico to Labrador and including areas in southern Quebec such as Montreal, where such an event has not been witnessed since 1932.
