A NEW tiny home village in Colorado has been unveiled, offering a safe and rent-free space for those in need.
The mini homes are equipped with AC and furniture but are missing two key essentials – and for good reason.

Experienced home builders in Colorado have teamed up with young builders to make a positive change in the community.
Cherry Creek Innovation Campus, a college and career preparedness facility, has collaborated with Colorado Village Collaborative, a non-profit that creates tiny home villages for the homeless, per Sentinel Colorado.
High-school students in the CCIC program have received hands-on training in construction while working with the non-profit.
Since October 2023, the duo has been working to construct five tiny homes for the homeless community in Denver.
They are intended to be temporary emergency shelter spaces to help the homeless transition to stable housing.
On April 26, the months-long effort was completed and the newly constructed tiny homes were placed onto semi-trucks to be delivered to their new community.
The 100-square-foot tiny homes are fit for one to two people and feature air conditioning, heating, bookshelves, and lockable doors.
However, they were not built with bathrooms or kitchens because the tiny home village will feature a community center with a large kitchen, dining area, laundry, and bathrooms.
Over the past few years, the students have built 21 tiny homes.
RESILIENT BUILDER
The tiny home village was built by dedicated individuals, including Joe Wehrman, one of the CCIC students.
Losing an eye did not prevent the high schooler from participating in the build and wanting to help others.
On the Fourth of July last year, a fireworks mortar accidentally went off near him.
“I don’t really know what happened, but it hit me in the face,” Wehrman told Sentinel Colorado.
Because of the accident, the young boy broke his jaw and orbital bone and lost his right eye.
Additionally, the cornea on his left eye was scratched, making it difficult to see.
Wehrman began wearing a prosthetic eye and faced difficulties with his depth perception.

It made it tough for him to do things such as hammer a nail, but “like riding a bike, it comes right back to you.”
Wehrman received much support upon his return to CCIC and was able to continue his work learning about the construction trade.
“I could not have done this without all the support that was given to me,” he said.
“It’s really comforting and it gives you motivation because then… you don’t want to get better just for yourself. You get better for everyone around you.”
Fueled by the support of his teachers and friends, Wehrman was able to participate in the construction of the tiny home village.
“The tiny homes are cool…because I can help people and it’s helping me to learn all the different skills and trades that go along with building a tiny home,” Wehrman said.
He hopes to one day own his own construction company and to “be successful enough that I can help people out.”
