According to the CP, preliminary investigations indicate that Thompson was returning from the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) on April 22, when the suspects, identified as Elijah Emmanuel, 23, and Tony Ogenata, 21, allegedly lured him to their apartment, where he was k!lled.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, April 29, the family recounted in harrowing details how the suspects abducted and k!lled Thompson before they demanded N150m ransom for his release.

The family, however, stated that contrary to the CP’s statement, the suspects k!lled tye boy and dumped the body in a canal in Awoyaya, Ibeju-Lekki before escaping to Ikorodu where they were eventually arrested.

According to the grieving family, Thompson left home on that fateful day to visit Elijah Hope Emmanuel, who had often invited him over.

The family grew increasingly worried when Thompson failed to return home and all efforts to reach him proved abortive as his phone was switched off.

The following morning, his sister, Lovett went to the police to officially report him missing.

While Lovett was at the police station, the family received a message from Thompson’s number instructing them to download an app and claiming that the teenager had been kidnapped.

“Soon after, we were informed that the kidnappers demanded a ransom of N150 million naira. We had to pay the police for additional tracking efforts on Thompson’s SIM card,” the statement read.

“By God’s grace with the help of the anti-kidnapping squad, they succeeded in tracking them and the kidnappers were caught.

“They later confessed that they had been watching Thompson since he was a child, targeting him because they believed his family was wealthy. Tragically, they even tied him up, filmed him and took his life before they even demanded the ransom.”

The family said their son’s traumatic d3ath and the profound impact it has had on the whole family is one no other family should ever have to endure.

“I share this story not only to grieve, but to seek justice and ensure that no other family has to endure what we have. I urge you to help us spread awareness, so that Thompson’s story leads to action and protects other children from this kind of tragedy,” the family added.
