‘There is a lot of temptation in the music industry’ — Lojay

Nigerian singer, Lekan Osifeso Jr., popularly known as Lojay, has revealed that he initially saw becoming a pop star as an opportunity to womanise, but later changed his mindset after entering the music industry.

Speaking on an episode of the ‘I Said What I Said’ podcast, the “Monalisa” crooner explained that his perspective evolved when he realised that sustaining a long and successful career requires a level of sexual discipline.

“There is a lot of temptation in the music industry. You will see a lot of things, but you are not meant to touch. I used to think I would frolic with a lot of ladies because there are babes everywhere.

“But when you have about 100 girls talking to you, that is when you need to cultivate discipline.

“I realised if you want a long career like the Big 3, you have to stay away from too many girls,” he said.

The singer noted that one of his biggest cultural shocks after breaking into the mainstream was discovering that the lifestyles of established artists, which once appealed to him as an underground act, were not as attractive in reality.

According to him, the industry demands more restraint than many people assume, as artists are conscious of their image and the need to protect their reputation.

He added that his personal disposition has also helped him maintain a level of discipline compared to some of his peers, particularly in areas of relationships and spending habits.
