AN expert has claimed that there is a simple way to reject receipt checks.
Michael Bryant, head of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, has revealed that customers do not need to stop for receipt checks.

In a 2019 interview, he revealed that retailers need consent from shoppers to check their receipts or bags, or else they can simply reject the company’s policy.
“Their right is to say, ‘Thanks, but no thanks,’ and walk away,” Bryant told CBC News.
“Some people feel strongly about their privacy and, in fact, the way our laws work, that privacy and liberty is protected.”
People around the United States have been echoing a similar sentiment, outright refusing to show their receipts to Walmart.
On TikTok, a man named Al Pitchman (@al_pitchman), revealed that he always calmly refuses to show his receipt for exiting the store.
“I tell them that I know they are just doing their job and that I have nothing personal against them,” he explained in the clip.
“Then, I kindly let the employee know that I do not agree with the policy, I tell them to have a nice day, and I walk out the door.”
“Don’t be fooled. When you spend your hard-earned dollars at any Walmart, you are NOT required by law, to show your receipt on the way out. #knowyourrights,” he captioned the video.
Another user (@trenchesofphilly) filmed himself refusing the receipt checks while at the retailer.
“This Walmart called police on me first time I did this, and haven’t asked me for a receipt in over a year until today after officers informed them I wasn’t required to,” he explained in the video.
He told the worker: “You know we can refuse it right?
“OK, well we refuse.”
As he walks away he adds: “I’m just saying we were just in self-checkout I know I’m not arguing with you.”
