The Nigeria International found the net as Atletico Madrid faced a devastating 3-2 defeat on penalties against Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey final on Saturday.

The match ended in a 2-2 draw in regulation time at the Estadio de La Cartuja in Seville, Spain.

Lookman executed a left-footed shot from the edge of the area into the bottom corner, leveling the score for Atletico Madrid.

Ander Barrenetxea had given Real Sociedad the lead within the first minute, but the Nigerian international quickly responded to equalize for the Madrid team.

However, Sociedad regained their lead before halftime, with captain Mikel Oyarzabal converting a penalty with composure.

Atletico mounted a determined response after the break, with Julian Alvarez scoring a late equalizer just seven minutes before the match concluded.

Lookman remained a key player throughout the second half and seemed ready to secure a second goal before he was eventually substituted.

The Nigerian international, after receiving a precise pass from Marcos Llorente, sent his shot over the crossbar in the 60th minute.

He was substituted just three minutes later, with Nico Gonzalez coming on as Atletico Madrid increased their efforts to find an equalizer in the second half.

According to Opta Jose, Ademola Lookman became the second Nigerian to score in a Copa del Rey final, following Finidi George, who accomplished this with Real Betis against Barcelona in 1997.

His goal on Saturday further enhanced his tally for the Rojiblancos, highlighting his remarkable performance since his transfer from Atalanta in the winter.

The 28-year-old has now accumulated seven goals and four assists in 18 appearances across all competitions.
