Service After Retiring from Service

Retiring from a job such as civil service/ military in Nigeria and most countries,there is a set age or years of service often 60 years old or 35 years of service , after that you stop going to office and collect pension and gratuity,that is real legal

Also private sector such as companies set retirement ages too ,so when some people said they have retired, it means they have left Government or company employment

But the deeper meaning can a human ever stop serving?

You retire from a position not from purpose for example

A teacher retire from the classroom at 60 years but still teaches grandchildren, mentor young people or volunteering which means the job ended but the services change form

A soldier retires from the army but still serves family , community,church / mosque. Many ex- service men become community leaders

A journalist retired from service but still become a freelancer, advocate and campaigner or community spoke person

In many cultural African countries elders don’t retire
They transition ,your role shifts from doing to guiding , they stop earning salary but start giving wisdom ,proverbs , settling d isputes ,naming children that is service too

Parehood never retires ,you have children,you will be their guidance at 80 ,no pension no closing time

But let look at full retirement when Doctor and phycologist warn people who disminsh in service from 100%- 0% often face depression ,quick health decline due to illness like BP diabetes, terminal diseases often lead to inactivity of human, this where active retirement is advisable

In conclusion you cannot retire from being human as long as you breaths you serve family , neighbors and yourself with biblical example with ref. In the book of Numbers chapter 8 vs 25 – 26 read and I quote “at the age of fifty, they must retire from their regular service and work no longer, they may assist their brothers in performing their duties at the tent of meeting but they themselves must not do the work “
