A former senator who represented Kebbi South, Bala Ibn Na’Allah, has lamented the increasing profiling of Nigerians as fraudsters and drug pushers in foreign countries.
The four-time lawmaker and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, stated this on his X handle on Wednesday.
According to him, the condemnable profiling has made free movement difficult for many Nigerians when they travel outside the country.
While blaming the conduct of a few citizens for the ill-treatment of Nigerians, Mr Na’Allah claimed thsy citizens who are predominantly from a section of the country erroneously believe that doing drugs and scams are the only gateways to riches.
“It’s becoming increasingly difficult for Nigerians to legitimately move around the world because of the conduct of few of it’s citizens, predominantly from a section of the country, who erroneously believe drugs and scams are the only gateways to riches,” he wrote.
But Mr Na’Allah’s tweet triggered mixed reactions from his followers who trooped to the comment section to express their views.
@NGeeNius wrote: “Have you looked at the people around your president. Have you checked their records? Don’t you know their reputation among the countries of the world. If the world does not respect your leader, how will they respect your citizens?
Another user @FakhuuHashim, said Nigerians are happy knowing that Mr Na’Allah didn’t return to the Senate.
“Nigerians sleep better at night knowing you lost your last elections. An individual like you only belongs at a local Mai Shayi’s Majalissa,” she wrote.
@ErnestNnabb66455 said the issues raised by Mr Na’Allah could be traced to the conscienceless attitude of colleagues in the national assembly.
“I think the sins of these set of people and many others can be tracked down to the way you and your conscienceless colleagues have been managing to commonwealth of this rich nation. Is regrettably embarrassing that you have the enffontry to point finger at misconducts,” he said.
But the ex-lawmaker responded, saying: “What would have been helpful to you is to say what I said is not the truth. Don’t defend a wrong doing.”
@Otiuvochukwu45, also said Mr Na’Allah should be more concerned about the banditry ravaging the northern region. “Banditry all over your region and yet,” he said.
But again, Mr Na’Allah responded, saying: “There are millions of Nigerians out there doing their legitimate businesses, and given Nigerians a course to be proud of their country. They need to be protected from humiliation ignited by these few misguided elements”.
