The presidency has raised national security concerns following the heavy allegations levelled against African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, by the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal.
Lawal, who resigned from the ADC on Monday, claimed that the party’s recently concluded primary election was heavily rigged and manipulated to favour Atiku.
He described the process as a fraud, alleging that results were pre-written and referring to Atiku as “Kachalla”—a title he claimed Fulani bandits use for their leaders.
Reacting via his X handle, presidential spokesman Daniel Bwala stated that Lawal’s remarks, if proven true, pose a major threat to the country’s national security.
Bwala noted that the bitter breakdown within the opposition camp has exposed the real intentions of leaders who previously claimed they were forming a unified coalition to rescue Nigeria.

“In the past two or three months, these people were talking about how they were made from heaven as one indivisible and indissoluble coalition sent by God to come and rescue Nigeria; and alas all their intentions and plans have been exposed,” Bwala wrote.
