Rivers: ‘Impeachment Plot Is A Game To Get Fubara Out So The Speaker Can Become Acting Governor‘ – Babajide Otitoju

Director of News at Television Continental (TVC), Babajide Otitoju, has asserted that the impeachment plot against Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, is a move to make the Speaker of the state Assembly become an acting Governor.

Naija News reports that Otitoju made this statement on Sunday during an interview on TVC, speaking about the political crisis rocking Rivers State, where Assembly members initiated impeachment proceedings against Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu over allegation of gross misconduct.

According to him, any state governor who does not have the support of the state lawmakers has his days numbered.

He said, “Rivers House of Assembly wants to impeach Fubara’s deputy, even when they can’t really point out the offense she has committed.

“That’s why people think this is just a game meant to get the governor and deputy out of the way so that the speaker can become acting governor.

“The fact is clear. If you don’t have the support of the lawmakers, your days could actually be numbered. This was actually what happened to Balarabe Musa, who was governor of Kaduna State.”

Meanwhile, a former Chairman of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, Chijioke Ihunwo, has blamed the lingering political crisis in Rivers State on what he described as external interference in the State House of Assembly, insisting that Fubara has committed no offence that warrants impeachment.

Speaking in an interview on Arise News on Saturday, Ihunwo said the crisis has refused to abate despite presidential intervention and emergency measures because some political actors are bent on controlling the affairs of the state.

According to him, the governor is being pressured by forces that do not want him to exercise his constitutional mandate freely.
