“Right from the Garden of Eden, relationship has been transactional” – Toke Makinwa says as she advocates for dating within one’s class (Video)

Media personality and former Radio presenter Toke Makinwa has shared her thoughts on transactional relationships.

While speaking on the MENtality podcast hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu with Toolz and Banky also in attendance, she said she believes all relationships are transactional. According to her, from time immemorial, the relationship between man and woman has always been transactional, right from the Garden of Eden to our parents’ days.

“I think from time immemorial, a relationship between a man and a woman has always been transactional. Right from the Garden of Eden, right from our parents’ days”.

Makinwa also said she believes people should date within their income bracket, arguing that financial differences can create challenges in relationships.

She noted that many men pursue relationships with women whose lifestyles exceed their financial means, only to complain later that such women are materialistic.

“I am a big believer of date within your age and within your class. That way there will not be stories that touch”.

Toke made an example of how a man will have a good girl at home and yet still cheat with a woman they can’t afford.

“You will have a good girl at home, a girl who will even make dinner with her own money when you don’t have. Yet, some men will still want to cheat on her with a woman they can’t afford”.

She also noted how most women are scared of getting with men when they are still struggling, as they tend to change when they become rich.

“Heaven forbid you end up with a guy who hasn’t blown. The day he blows, that is when you will know his true personality.

“And that scares women. Money doesn’t change people; it just reveals who a person is. So many men are treating women who sacrificed everything for them badly.”

Legendary actor Emeka Ike said love and marriage are not scams, revealing that the real problems lie with people who enter into them purely for selfish and financial gain. Emeka urged women not to let social media shape their expectations of relationships, stressing that every marriage is different.

Beverly Osu had kicked against the norm of blaming people for choosing the wrong partner, but never blaming the person who faked their personality. She admonished society to start holding the deceiver accountable for manipulating.

Toke Makinwa had advised ladies in relationships, telling them to marry the man who calls after an argument to make sure they are okay, rather than one who leaves them alone to deal with their pain. Makinwa stressed that one should choose a partner who stays when things get difficult and seeks understanding rather than trying to win every argument.

Comedian Funny Bone had advised ladies who are scared of relationships and marriages because of bad online examples to curate their algorithms and stop feeding their minds content that constantly triggers pain, fear, and resentment. He admonished them not to let others’ experiences shape how they view a man who hasn’t even entered their life yet.
