On Friday, directors of Research and Development centers from African Petroleum Producers’ Organization (APPO) Member Countries converged for an inaugural meeting in Luanda, Angola .
In his address at the opening ceremony, Dr. Omar Farouk Ibrahim, Secretary General of APPO, emphasized the importance of collaboration among African nations to harness collective efforts in research, development, and innovation.
10 APPO Member Countries are represented at the inaugural meeting.
They are holding vital discussions on advancing Africa’s energy agenda and deepening collaboration for energy development and security across the continent.
Earlier, Dr. Ibrahim led a series of visits to Production and Research Development sites in Luanda.
This event serves as a precursor to the inaugural session of the Forum of Directors of Research, Development, and Innovation Centers of APPO Member Countries.
As part of the preparatory activities, the delegation, comprising representatives from Member Countries, visited the Sonangol Refinery, the Central Laboratory, and the laboratories of the Higher Polytechnic Institute of Technology and Science.
Algeria is a founding member of APPO (1987). It became independent on 5 July 1962 and its official language is Arabic. Its capital Algiers. The country has a population of over 44 million.
