The House of Representatives has scheduled an emergency sitting for Tuesday, 17th February, in connection with the 2027 General Election timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This development was confirmed in a statement signed by the House spokesperson, Akin Rotimi.
The spokesperson of the House stated that legislators in the lower chamber of the National Assembly have been notified of the meeting through an internal memorandum issued by the Office of the Speaker late Friday.
He emphasized the constitutional and national importance of the development and the need for timely legislative attention.
The statement added that the emergency sitting demonstrates the House’s resolve to respond promptly to issues with far-reaching implications for Nigeria’s democratic process, stressing that the emergency sitting is in line with the constitutional duties of the National Assembly and urged members to make themselves available.

Naija News recalls that INEC on Friday, released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election.
According to the details released on Friday, 13th February, 2026, Presidential and National Assembly elections will be held on February 20, 2027, while the Governorship and State Assembly elections will be held on March 6, 2027.
However, some stakeholders have called for a review of the dates, to allow for inclusiveness, stressing that some of the proposed dates clash with the Ramadan fasting period.
