Police arrest five suspected cultists in Edo

Operatives of the Edo State Command have arrested five suspected cultists – Emeka Eke, Chizoba Okolie, Samson Ochonobor, Friday Agbebayo and Julius Eguasa, for engaging in street fights in the state.

It was gathered that the suspects alleged to be members of Eiye Confraternity engaged in a street fight at Ramat Park area over a dispute over the failure of a member to pay monthly dues and failing to attend meetings of their confraternity.

The Command’s Spokesperson, SP Chidi Nwanbuzor, who confirmed the incident said the suspects were arrested for conspiracy and cultism.

He said the suspects who are members of Eiye Confraternity were seen fighting at Ramat Park, Benin, and were arrested by the operatives of the anti-kidnapping and cybercrime unit of the command on patrol.

He said during interrogation it was discovered that the suspects were members of the Eiye confraternity.

He added, “It was also discovered that four of the suspects, Emeka Eke, Chizoba Okolie, Samson Ochonobor, and Friday Abgebayo were beating Julius Eguasa for failing to attend their meetings and paying monthly dues to the confraternity.

“Our operatives who were on patrol arrested, interrogated them, and found out that they are members of Eiye confraternity.”

Nwabuzor said the suspects were helping the police in their investigation and that they would soon be charged in court.
