Plateau Govt Takes Fresh Decision On Curfew Imposed On Jos North

The Plateau State Government has further relaxed the curfew earlier imposed on Jos North Local Government Area following what it described as improvements in the security situation.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, the government said the decision followed consultations with security agencies, which assessed the security situation in Jos North and adjoining communities as satisfactory.

According to the statement, the curfew will now be observed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily beginning from Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

The government urged residents to continue obeying the directive and remain law-abiding and vigilant.

Citizens were also advised to cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements and activities within their communities.

The state government further appreciated residents for their patience, understanding and support during the period of restrictions.

The Plateau Government initially imposed a 48-hour curfew on Jos North Local Government Area following an attack on March 29 in the Gari Ya Waye community

The attack reportedly left several persons dead and many others injured.

In a statement issued after the incident, Ramnap said the curfew took effect from midnight of March 29 to April 1, 2026.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang had condemned the killings, describing them as a “barbaric and unprovoked attack on innocent citizens.”

He also assured residents that the government would intensify efforts to prevent further attacks and ensure those responsible were apprehended.

The state government later relaxed the curfew on April 8 following what it described as relative peace in affected communities.

At the time, residents were permitted to go about their lawful activities between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily.
