PFIPC scandal: Ex-presidential candidate warns FG against suppressing inquiry

Former presidential candidate Chief Peter Ameh has raised alarm over the controversial inclusion of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) in the 2026 national budget.

Ameh described the episode as a potential criminal conspiracy at the highest levels of government.

In a statement issued on Friday, July 3, 2026, Ameh, who served as Acting National Chairman of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) and former National Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), questioned how an agency not listed among official Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) secured a budget code (0111062001) and substantial allocation.

According to Ameh, the 2026 Budget Call Circular was issued exclusively to MDAs, yet the PFIPC was allegedly inserted into the proposal by someone within the Presidency.

The budget was subsequently defended in bilateral sessions with the Budget Office, approved by the Federal Executive Council, scrutinized by National Assembly committees, and passed it into law after presidential assent, with input from senior ministers and presidential aides.

“The process implicates multiple high-level actors across the Presidency, the Budget Office of the Federation, and the National Assembly, raising serious questions that demand immediate answers,” Ameh said.

He highlighted the “shocking admission” that a fraudster allegedly misled the Attorney General of the Federation into opening a Central Bank of Nigeria account for the agency, which also operates an official website at pfipc.gov.ng.

The ex-presidential candidate further warned the Presidency against any attempt to use state power to silence the agency’s Director General.

He stressed that “accountability and due process must prevail over any attempt to suppress inquiry.”

Ameh directly called on Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, and others implicated to resign immediately to allow for an independent investigation.

“The arrogance of power must stop,” he declared.

“Nigerians deserve a government that upholds integrity, transparency, and the rule of law.”

He urged the National Assembly and anti-corruption agencies to launch a full-scale, unbiased probe without delay.
